ITINERARY

NAZCA LINES
ICA – PARACAS – NAZCA
2 days/1 night from Lima

Day 1: LIMA – ICA - NAZCA LINES

You will be picked up this morning from your hotel. Transfer to the bus terminal to take Cruz del Sur bus to Ica.

See the option of private transportation to Ica.

The desert, sea and golden dunes make up Ica's contrasting landscape. A land of Pima and Tanguis cotton and pisco (distilled grape brandy), Ica is also recognized as Peru’s wine capital. Located about 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Paracas, it is situated above the fog bank that drifts in from the sea during the winter, and its climate is sunny and dry throughout the year.

Upon arrival we are transferred to the Ica airport for a flight over the Nazca lines.

The enigmatic lines of Nazca and its mysteries fascinate scientists, archaeologists and visitors alike. The lines are stretched out in the sand of the coastal plains of Nazca covering an area of 350 square kilometers (about 135 square miles).

The flight allows you to see the geometrical, animal and humanoid markings. You will see the monkey, the hummingbird, the astronaut, the spider, the dog, the condor and others. It is believed that they were made between 300 and 800 AD. In the decade of the 40's a German lady, María Reiche, settled in the area and devoted her life to studying these lines and their figures. She developed the theory that they were a form of calendar outlining diverse astrological signs and that they were built for the purpose of religious enlightenment by the Paracas-Nazca civilization more than 2000 years ago.

Return to Ica. In the afternoon, you will take a sightseeing tour of the city and the Regional Museum of Ica and a wine cellar. A comprehensive collection of Pre-Columbian textiles, ceramics and artifacts from the Paracas, Nazca and Inca cultures is exhibited in the archaeological museum.

The Huacachina oasis is located 5 km southwest from Ica. Buggies and sand boarding has become popular on the desert sand dunes.

Drive: About 4 hours to Ica.

Flight Ica-Nazca-Ica: 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Overnight at Hotel Villa Jazmin in Ica.

Day 2: ICA – PARACAS – BALLESTA ISLANDS – LIMA

Morning tour to the Ballestas Islands; where you will see impressive rocky formations and important types of marine life. The Islands are a sanctuary to large colonies of marine birds including pelicans, boobies, cormorants, terns and gulls. There is a huge quantity of sea lions and the Humboldt Penguin also known as the Peruvian Penguin which can be seen in Southern Peru and Chile.

From the sea, you will observe the Candelabro, also known as Three Crosses, which may be related to the Nazca Lines.

Transfer to the bus station to take Cruz del Sur bus back to Lima. Arrival at the bus station in Lima and transfer to your hotel.
